Foundation Program International

Designed for international students, Foundation Program International supports your smooth transition into a post-secondary diploma or degree program. 

This program is designed with added student supports and mentorship in order to enhance admissibility to post-secondary programs. 

Program Completion

Successful completion of this program prepares students for further post-secondary studies at the undergraduate level. Upon completion of the Foundation Program International, students are required to apply to a degree or diploma program. Completion of this program does not guarantee admission to another program.

Program Requirements

Each student in the Foundation Program International is part of a cohort:

Core Class

  • Term 1: credit course Foundational 101 (39 hrs) with up to 6 hours of individual mentorship per term

Elective Classes

  • Up to 2 English as an Additional Language or University Preparation courses per term to meet admission requirements or for competitive entry to a MacEwan program.
  • Up to 1 post-secondary course per term in Open Studies. These courses can be used by students to fulfill elective requirements for MacEwan degrees and diplomas.

The maximum number of hours a student can be enrolled in each term varies between 231 to 360 hours.

Admission Requirements

All applicants must meet an acceptable level of English language proficiency. This program requires proof of successful completion of a standardized language evaluation, such as an overall IELTS score of 5.5 with no skill under 4.5, or equivalent.

Once admitted to the program, students may be required to write a placement test to determine their current academic standing and placement level.
