Film Minor
For Bachelor of Communication Studies
Over the past century, film has stood as one of the most significant influences on culture, often straddling an uncertain divide between popular entertainment and elite artistic and philosophical expression. Given the importance of film to 20th and 21st-century world culture, this minor provides post-secondary students an opportunity to investigate its significant cultural and philosophical impact.
The Film minor is an interdisciplinary and interfaculty minor that draws from courses from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications and the Faculty of Arts and Science, offering students a range of film courses taught by experts in filmmaking and film analysis from a variety of departments. MacEwan students will study film from a broad perspective, discovering and sustaining a strong scholarly focus while working alongside qualified faculty members, and be afforded personal learning experiences that foster a distinctly global perspective. Students will come away with a rich understanding of film that is theoretical, practical, historical, critical, aesthetic, and cultural.
The Film minor requires 18 credits with a minimum of 6 credits at the 300- or 400-level.
